Canadian Athletic Brand “Free Flow Activewear” to host a Virtual Beach Clean Up this Earth Day

In the past, Earth Day has attracted millions of people to come together and do something good for the environment. Whether it’s organized beach clean-ups or marathon fundraisers, everyone steps up to help clean up mother earth and push for a greener world. With people currently in quarantine, Earth Day initiatives have had to become much more creative this year, and one particular company leading the way is Canadian athletic brand Free Flow Activewear. On April 22nd, Free Flow will be hosting a Virtual Beach Clean Up Event in partnership with Toronto-based fitness facility BOLO.

From 2:00 PM – 6:00 PM EST, Free Flow and BOLO are inviting people to tune in to BOLO's Instagram account @boloinc and join one or all their LIVE workout sessions ranging from a variety of movements including meditation, boxing technique, and vinyasa yoga flow. For every person that participates, Free Flow will be picking up 1 kg of trash off a beach worldwide.

If you're looking for a way to help out this Earth Day and get a good workout in, make sure you drop by those times and show your support for Mother Nature.

Free Flow x BOLO

In advance of Free Flow x BOLO's upcoming event, we also had a chance to speak with Free Flow Activewear founder Emliy Ratchford about the initiative and her sustainable apparel line.

First of all, we just want to say, this is an incredible initiative! Can you tell us more about this partnership with BOLO and what was the inspiration behind it?
I met Caleigh, the founder of BOLO, last year through a mutual friend. I absolutely love her space and community she has built. She's a huge supporter of other female entrepreneurs, community and overall wellness. It felt like a natural fit.

Tell us more about Free Flow and what inspired you to create your line of sustainable apparel
My background is in retail buying, and I worked for major Canadian retailers for over 10 years. The past few years, I became really involved within my yoga community and started going on surf trips all over the world. On a trip to Bali in 2018, I was really horrified by the state of the beaches and how much the surf and shore were overrun with trash. I've always wanted to create my own business but it was important that there was a mission behind it that I was passionate about. Free Flow was born from there.

We love that we can do our part with this Virtual Beach Clean-Up. With everyone currently at home, what are other ways we can help out on our end to live our most sustainable lives?
I think this is a great time to try out new sustainable products at home! We lead such busy lives that often we choose the most convenient options. Being home right now, why not try a zero waste shampoo (LoveFresh is coming out with a new one) or swapping out plastic kitchen wrap for Beeswax wraps (Ten & Co makes a great one). We all have a little more time on our hands so it's a good chance to do some research on easy, everyday product replacements. Don't forget to save and re-use your takeout containers when you can instead of just throwing them out!

Is there anything else upcoming with Free Flow Apparel that you can share and we can look forward to?
Yes! We are super excited that we are expanding Free Flow by carrying additional sustainable and high vibe apparel brands as well as adding clean beauty and lifestyle products. We will have some really fun things just in time for Mother's Day and I can't wait to share what's in store.
